An annual report shows that a record number of New Yorkers is sleeping in city shelters each night. 

The Coalition for the Homeless released the latest version of its report, which estimates that there at 60,000 people who rely on a shelter. That number is up from more than 53,000 homeless people in January last year. 

The organization is also raising concern about a growing number of children staying in homeless shelters. It says one in every 43 kids spent time in a shelter in 2014. It is more common among minorities with one in 17 black children and one in 34 Latino young people relying on shelters. 

The coalition is calling on the city and state to take action to combat what it calls a crisis.
