The Alzheimer's Association is calling for more funding to research Alzheimer's disease.

The Alzheimer's Association, which gives support to those suffering from the disease, says adult-care services such as those provided by facilities such as the New York Memory Center are becoming more and more necessary.

New York Memory Center not only provides daily activities for people living with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia, it also helps caregivers cope with the debilitating disease. The center also uses music as a means for its patients to communicate.

"The creative arts really provides an opportunity for individuals that are living with memory loss to express themselves in meaningful ways that make a difference," said Executive Director Christopher Nadeau.

According to the Alzheimer's Association's latest report, Alzheimer's is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States, which is why they wish to see the government invest more into research.

New York Memory Center says that about 60,000 Brooklyn residents are living with some form of dementia, and there are only three centers in the borough with support programs designed specifically for them.
