A Williamsburg school is teaching its students how to perform CPR.
The Juan Morel Campos Secondary School is the first CPR smart school in the borough. It is making a promise to make sure all of its students in grades six through 12 receive hands-on CPR training.
The American Heart Association says that CPR smart status is a way to praise schools for teaching the technique to students during health class or gym.
Robin Vitale, of the AMA, says that many cardiac arrest victims do not survive because they do not receive help in time.
School officials say seniors will train the sixth-graders, giving them the skills necessary to know when someone is possibly in cardiac arrest.
