Merchants in Williamsburg say they are upset about the MTA's decision to shutter L line services on weekends.

The MTA is preparing to make major repairs to the L line, meaning suspended service on the weekends for more than a month.

Taylor Erkkinen, who runs the Brooklyn Kitchen, says that many of her customers use the L train on weekends for the store's cooking classes. She says the shutdown could end up costing her thousands of dollars.

The MTA says that since 2007, ridership on the L line has gone up 27 percent. On average, more than 300,000 people ride the L every day.

"This is vital work that needs to be done in order to keep the line in a state of good repair to provide safe, reliable service," the MTA released in a statement.

The service suspension is expected to begin April 18 and last for five straight weekends.
