Excitement filled the air as the men in pinstripes began a new season by taking on the Toronto Blue Jays on their home turf. There was no Derek Jeter, but Alex Rodriguez returned after serving his suspension last season.
The Yankees wound up falling to the Blue Jays with a score of 6-1.
People packed area businesses starting as early as 8 a.m. to get hyped up for the game. Vendors and other business owners lining 161st Street and River Avenue say they're just as happy as the fans to have baseball back.
Ticket holders were urged to arrive as many as two hours before the first pitch due to new security measures put in place by the MLB, including metal detectors and barricades. Bomb-sniffing dogs and police officers also canvassed the entire stadium.
Despite breaking even with wins and losses in the preseason, the Bronx Bombers say they're determined to bring another World Series championship back to the borough.
