Networking website ‘Townsquared’ brings local business owners together

A unique networking website is bringing business owners in the borough together.
Townsquared has already spread to several Brooklyn neighborhoods including Williamsburg, Clinton Hill and Fort Greene. Employees of the site contact companies that sign up to verify their accounts, so as to keep Townsquared business-only.
TJ Obias, owner of Du Jour Bakery in Park Slope, says he recently heard about the site from the Fifth Avenue Business Improvement District. He took advantage of it right away by posting on the site about a scam he avoided. He had received a fraudulent call from someone posing as a Con Edison worker and asking for money.
He says a website like Townsquared is one of a kind.
"There's a big community feel, so while we are competing against each other we are all kind of the same small business owners just trying to make it, so I think there is strength in numbers," said Obias.
News 12 Brooklyn is told that Townsquared is completely free for business owners to sign up.
