Students, parents worried about school sidewalk safety
Parents and students are worried about their safety due to bumpy sidewalks outside of P.S. 169 in Sunset Park.
Parents say that there has been long stretch of rough sidewalks in front of the school since this past fall. They are calling on city agencies to fix the problem before someone is injured.
Sunset Park resident Cathy Williams says her 11-year-old daughter Olivia attends P.S. 169 and is always extra cautious while walking nearby.
Neighbors reached out to News 12 about the matter, saying they have not received a response from the school or Department of Transportation.
One community member spray-painted the word "caution" to warn people of the uneven sidewalks.
The Department of Education told News 12 that the safety of their students is their No. 1 priority, and they are working with all parties involved to make sure the issue is quickly addressed.
The Department of Transportation reported that the bump is due to past repairs by a utility company.
