Borough Hall creates private room for breastfeeding mothers
A new room at Borough Hall will now offer a private place for mothers to breastfeed their babies.
The room is outfitted with a hospital-grade breast pump, rocking chairs and educational reading materials.
Borough President Eric Adams says that he wants City Council to pass a bill that would require all city government buildings to have similar spaces.
Adams says that a private space for breastfeeding mothers is necessary because of the social stigma that exists against women breastfeeding in public.
The new room opens on May 10, Mother's Day.
