Community calls for action after deadly weekend shootings
Community activists are calling for action after a weekend of violence in Brooklyn left two people dead.
According to police, one of the victims was shot in the head and torso on Jamaica Avenue at around 7 p.m. Sunday. He was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead.
That shooting followed a double shooting Friday night at the Marcy Houses that killed one teenager and left another in critical condition. Local leaders gathered at the scene Sunday to demand more resources in high crime areas to help keep youth out of trouble.
Citywide, the NYPD says there were more than a dozen shootings this past weekend. Many say they're concerned that it's only the start of what's to come as the weather continues to warm up.
No arrests have been made in either shooting. Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS
