BX man killed in Brooklyn shooting possibly targeted

The Bronx man killed during a shooting outside an East Flatbush church may have been targeted, according to witnesses.

According to police, 40-year-old Sharieff Clayton, of Co-op City, died Monday night during a shooting outside the Emmanuel Church of God in East Flatbush. Ronald Murphy, 44, was also killed during the shooting. Four others, including two women, were injured.

Witnesses told police the shooting stemmed from a long-running feud between two men. The witnesses said the man Clayton was arguing with left the church and returned in a car with two other men before the shooting started.

However, Clayton's family and friends maintain he was not involved in any feud or with gangs. They say he was loved by everyone, and was a positive role model in the community.

Clayton worked as a case worker helping juveniles steer their lives in the right direction. Loved ones say he was also a passionate motivational speaker, entrepreneur and author, who went by the pen name A.C. Clayton.

Family members maintain Clayton was at the wrong place at the wrong time.
