Commuters call for new B44 express bus stop
Frustrated commuters are calling on the MTA to add a new express bus stop in their neighborhood.
They were joined by elected officials for a rally at Nostrand Avenue and Avenue R, the same corner where they want a B44 Select Bus Service stop added.
The nearest stops right now are on Nostrand Avenue and Kings Highway, and at Nostrand Avenue and Avenue U. Each one is about a half-mile from Avenue R, or about a mile apart.
Residents complain that many people who need to take one of the two existing stops are elderly and cannot walk so far, or stand outside waiting on local buses, especially in poor weather conditions.
They're hoping the MTA will at least agree to a pilot run, but transportation officials say the request is simply not feasible due to a number of physical obstacles.
