Charity uses Haitian celebration to raise funds
May is Haitian Heritage Month and to celebrate, one community group is raising money toward water restoration projects in a pair of the country's impoverished villages.
Community2Community is holding its fifth 'Hope and Future' event, featuring performances by a Haitian pop star and dance and theater groups.
Organizers say the charity group deals directly with the communities it seeks to aid. Group members are wary of middlemen, who they say notoriously pilfered donations in the wake of a catastrophic earthquake on the island country.
Haitian heritage festivities will continue throughout the month. Monday will be Haitian Flag Day at borough hall.
