Community spreads awareness to end gun violence

The NYPD says there are more victims of gun violence in Brooklyn than in any other borough, but community members are trying to help change that.
As part of Gun Violence Awareness Month this June, people in East New York came together Wednesday to try and raise awareness in their own neighborhood.
Susan Jackson is one advocate who spoke about her own tragedy in hope that it will inspire change. She lost her 24-year-old son back in 2007 after he was shot in the head while trying to break up a fight.
Advocates say one thing that can help is activities for young people to keep them out of trouble.
Fortunately, East New York is one area chosen to be a part of Mayor Bill de Blasio's $12.7 million initiative to reduce gun violence citywide. The money will be used toward education, mentoring and job training in high crime communities.
