Fundraiser for vets held at Brooklyn bar
Veterans and their families joined forces Saturday to raise awareness of problems facing some struggling former soldiers.
The Brooklyn chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America held the fundraiser at Greenwood Park Beer Garden in honor of injured and homeless vets.
Bar owner Connie Ranocchia is a veteran herself. She served as a helicopter and missile technician in the 1970s.
Vietnam veteran Jim Markson, of Sheepshead Bay, says he came to the event touting his new book. The book consists of 62 letters he wrote to his mother as a 19-year-old American soldier in Vietnam.
Organizers say that 100 percent of proceeds from the event will go to homeless or disabled vets.
