City's rent stabilization law to expire today
People living in about one million rent-stabilized apartments in the Bronx and across New York City are waiting for lawmakers in Albany to pass new rent regulations or extend the current laws.
That could mean the end of tenant protections for 2 million people. The law, as it stands, limits the amount that landlords can charge for their rent.
Without those protections, they can charge what they want.
Landlords can even evict tenants when their lease expires.
