Expert offers water safety tips
As public pools open across the city, News 12 spoke with a safety expert to find out what parents can do to keep their kids safe in the water this summer.
City lifeguard David Lawal says the pool can be a dangerous place, especially in the first couple of weeks it's open.
He says many people are excited to get in the pool as soon as it opens but that it's important to remember not to run or jump into the water.
Lawal says one of the best things parents can do is to enroll their kids in swimming lessons.
He says it's also important for parents to watch their own children because even if there is a lifeguard on duty, that person is often watching dozens of people.
