Subway riders seek free transfer in East New York
Subway riders in East New York say they are getting a raw deal when it comes to free transfers on their MetroCards.
Many riders told News 12 that they regularly transfer between the 1 stop on Livonia Avenue and the 3 stop on Junius Street, but it ends up costing them another $2.75 because of the transfer system.
Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams' office says it has been urging the MTA to make this a free transfer for years.
The MTA says it's a nice idea but that it just doesn't have the funds to change the current system.
They say in the meantime riders could get unlimited MetroCards so that they can transfer at no added cost.
Those unlimited monthly cards cost $116.50.
