Vote favors sale of Brooklyn Heights Library

To sell or not to sell? That was the question posed to a Brooklyn Heights community board over the site of a library.
In a vote held at Saint Francis College Wednesday night, Community Board 2 made the controversial recommendation to sell the Brooklyn Heights Library.
The $52 million sale calls for the current building to be razed and turned into a mixed-use high-rise with a new library on the ground floor.
The library is defending the plans, saying its facility is in need of repair and a budget boost. However, many residents fear the library will be downsized and unable to grow in the new development.
The issue will now go to Borough President Eric Adams, who is planning a public hearing at Borough Hall on Aug. 18.
