Free Internet access coming to public housing

Free high-speed Internet access is coming to several public housing developments across the city.
One of the hotspots will be at the Mott Haven houses in the Bronx.
The program, called Connect Home, is part of President Barack Obama's initiative to provide free broadband service nationwide to families in low-income communities.
Through the federal program, tenants at four other public housing developments in the city will be able to connect to the Internet at no charge.
Those who already have wireless service in their homes can chose free Wi-Fi instead.

The program is expected to benefit about 30,000 city students and 15,000 families across the city.
The city has invested $10 million into Connect Home.
The first installations are expected to begin in 2016.
