Gravesend owner of malnourished pups arrested
The Gravesend owner of nine allegedly abused and malnourished dogs was arrested last week.
Police say 43-year-old Shai Benattar was arrested in front of his Avenue X home July 20 on 10 counts of torture and injury and not feeding animals.
As previously reported, Rescue City took the nine puppies - all under 3 months old - out of the home in June.
Investigators say Benattar transported at least 20 dogs to New York from Florida. They say he then sold sick puppies without informing customers, and he was not even licensed to sell them.
Four of the rescue puppies have found forever homes, but five have been in foster homes, ready to be adopted soon.
An adoption event for the remaining pups will be held Aug. 1.
