With the sun beating down and an air-quality advisory in effect, Brooklyn commuters went about their day as usual Wednesday.

In Canarsie, people waited for a bus in 90-degree weather that felt like 100 degrees in the shade. They eagerly boarded the bus when it arrived.

Underground, commuters described subway stations as sweltering.

Pedestrians also battled the heat. "Trying to carry some ice water from the freezer," said Brooklyn resident Harry Moran. 

Temperatures were in the 90s across the borough.

Health officials urged commuters -- and even people inside their homes -- to look out for symptoms of heat-related illness. Those symptoms can include heavy sweating, weakness, nausea, vomiting and even cold, pale, clammy skin.
