Audit: On-time subway performance dropped
A new report says the city's subway system is becoming less punctual.
An audit by the New York State Comptroller's Office found that on-time performance dropped by 74 percent on weekdays and 81 percent on weekends in 2014. That's compared to a respective 81 percent and 85 percent decline in 2013.
The study looked at how often a train reached the end of its line within five minutes of the scheduled time.
"As we have explained many times, the best way to serve subway customers is to ensure even wait times between trains," the MTA said in a response statement. "We manage and measure subway service based on those wait times, not on on-time performance at the end of a subway terminal."
