Brooklyn woman shares struggle with synthetic marijuana

Elected officials are pushing to make K2, a form of synthetic marijuana, which is sold in grocery stores and bodegas, illegal.

News 12 sat down with a woman who used K2, but has been sober for more than eight months.

Della Ellis says she knew she needed help when her heart almost stopped. She says her addiction to K2 landed her in the emergency room and she thought she was at death's door. Ellis says she started smoking it when she moved into the shelter system.

She says the drug made her heart rate go up with tingling sensation in her legs.

Ellis says she is thankful to be alive.
