Group gives out back-to-school supplies
A Brooklyn organization eased the burden of buying some back-to-school supplies by holding a giveaway event for families in need.
Families lined up and down Utrecht Avenue for the event, hoping to receive free backpacks, notebooks, pencils and crayons so their kids can start the school year right.
The event was hosted by Reaching Out Community Services, which provides food assistance and social services to thousands of Brooklyn families.
This year, 500 families who are part of the group's food pantry program were given the school supplies.
