MTA to launch new bike racks pilot program
The MTA is rolling out a new pilot program that will put bike racks on some city buses. Starting this Sunday, the new racks, that can hold up to two bikes, will be placed on some S53 and S93 buses.

The MTA is rolling out a new pilot program that will put bike racks on some city buses.
Starting this Sunday, the new racks, that can hold up to two bikes, will be placed on some S53 and S93 buses. The two bus lines were chosen because of their access to bike paths, ridership and routes.
For now, only two Staten Island bus routes will feature the bike racks. Although it does connect in Bay Ridge.
The racks will be free to use, but residents will need to be able to load and unload the bikes themselves. A total of 38 bike racks have been purchased, costing $42,000.
The pilot program, that will test three types of front-mounted racks, will last for one year. Future expansion of the program will depend on how it works out.
