Officials mull changes for West Indian Parade
Officials are considering changes to the West Indian American Day Parade in the wake of several violent incidents, including one that critically injured one of Gov. Andrew Cuomo's aides.
Government and community leaders are seeking ways to increase security during the overnight Jouvert celebration
During this year's Jouvert, which takes place leading up to the parade, a man was stabbed to death, and the governor's aide was shot in the head. Authorities say he was caught in the crossfire between two rival gangs.
Some residents say that the violence is the result of easily accessible guns.
