G train back on track after derailment
The G train was back up and running Friday after it derailed on Thursday, causing major delays.
Certain stations were closed throughout the day and others had limited service after a Church Avenue-bound train collided with a deteriorated section of bench wall next to the track north of the Hoyt-Schermerhorn station. Debris fell on the track, causing an axle to derail and forcing riders to evacuate the train.
Crews worked throughout the day cleaning up the debris and securing the wall.
The MTA says the rails were not damaged, which is why the train was able to get back up and running so quickly. They are working to figure out how to prevent similar incidents in the future.
