Brooklyn restaurants take part in Black-Owned Restaurant Month

Thirteen restaurants in Brooklyn and Manhattan are taking part in Black-Owned Restaurant Month.
The event started more than a week ago when blogger Genese Jamilah's list of restaurants owned by African-Americans in New York City went viral. She put together a dining event for the restaurants to raise awareness.
"Sometimes you're in the neighborhood for years and you don't know who's behind all the businesses, so hopefully after this month people come back and continue to support these black-owned businesses," says Jamilah.
Each restaurant has a $35 three-course prix fixe menu.
"There's been a lot of people coming in to sample the food and it's gotten good reviews so far, so that's great," says Maxine Adewumi, co-owner of Amarachi in downtown Brooklyn.
The event will continue through the end of September.
