Nursing home hosts 'Adopt a Grandparent' event
A street carnival in Cobble Hill on Sunday connected people of all age groups throughout the borough.
The "Adopt a Grandparent" event was hosted by the Cobble Hill Health Center, a nursing home that houses 364 residents.
People say they attended the carnival to spend some time with the nursing home's residents, and to hopefully forge long-term friendships with them.
Robert Herel, director of social work, says the carnival is a great way to give back and to provide support to those who might not have families of their own.
Organizers say many of the residents in the nursing home long for contact with people in the community. They say they would appreciate something as simple as a birthday card or a quick hello.
