A new type of opera that uses smaller venues for more intimate performances is emerging in Brooklyn.
The nonprofit organization called LoftOpera produces musical selections and rotates their shows in different loft spaces around Brooklyn.
The organization's goal is to make opera affordable, interesting and new, it says.
LoftOpera's shows provide an intimate setting where young artists have opportunities to perform lead roles in paid positions, according to officials.
"You get a lot of exposure and a lot of opportunities," says baritone singer Joshua Jeremiah. "There's a high level of talent that you're working with."
LoftOpera will be performing on Sept. 25 and 26 at the Muse loft space. Tickets are $20.
