Bay Ridge students to perform in front of pope
When Pope Francis touches down at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Thursday, he will be welcomed by some talented musicians from Bay Ridge.
The Diocese of Brooklyn says that Xaverian High School's jazz band will be the only musical accompaniment when Pope Francis arrives.
The school's music teacher says he held auditions to determine which students will perform. Only 44 students out of 120 were selected.
The band has been practicing papal music in the morning and afternoon hours for more than a week.
Xaverian High School students also played for Pope Benedict XVI when he visited New York in 2008.
