10-year-old boy dies in East New York fire

Authorities are investigating a fire that killed a 10-year-old boy in the Pink Houses in East New York.
They say the fire occurred Thursday night inside apartment 3H. A badly burned air conditioner was pushed out the window as firefighters worked to put the fire out. Neighbors say the hallways of the building quickly filled with smoke during the fire, temporarily trapping many who live on the floors above in their homes.
Family members of the victim, Clint Guobadia, say the fire started near the AC unit. Clint's father, Moses, says his wife's screams woke him up at around 9:30 p.m. He initially tried to free his son from the inside, quickly realizing that Clint was trapped.
Then Moses went outside, hoping he could get his son to jump out the window, but it was engulfed in flames when he got there.
"Flames came out ... going up into the sky ... so I said 'my son is gone,'" says Moses.
They say Clint was unconscious and unresponsive when he was found. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Medical examiners are determining a cause of death.
The fire marshal's office is investigating the cause of the fire.
