Williamsburg celebrated Columbus Day Monday with a grand Giglio Festival.

Proud Italian-American teens lifted the St. Paulinus statue onto their shoulders as traditional music played near Lorimer Street and Metropolitan Avenue.

The lifting of the Giglio was also held in July, but Monday's event served mainly as a celebration of Columbus Day. 

The tradition that celebrates Italian heritage was brought by immigrants to Brooklyn nearly 128 years ago. It celebrates St. Paulinus, who rescued townsfolk in Nola, near Naples. The saint was awarded with lilies, or giglio in Italian.
