Residents and elected officials gathered at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on Monday to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

There were special performances by the Brooklyn Interdenominational Choir and 'The Voice' show contestant Kimberly Nichole.

Guest speakers included Mayor Bill de Blasio, Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson and state senators.

Officials discussed carrying forward Dr. King's legacy of justice and equality for everyone. They also talked about raising the minimum wage, affordable housing, economic justice, the Black Lives Matter movement and Dr. King's opposition to war.

It was the 30th year Brooklyn has celebrated the life of Dr. King. 

People who attended told News 12 there was no other place they would rather be on this day.
