A Brooklyn councilman has introduced a bill that calls for suspending meter parking rules when alternate side parking rules are suspended.
Councilman Jumaane Williams' proposed bill is a response to the city's Department of Transportation's enforcement of metered parking following the blizzard last weekend.
"If you have done an assessment and decided that we don't need alternate side of the street parking, you may want to suspend meters too because it's the same kind of thought process," says Williams.
Business owners along Avenue D in East Flatbush say the parking meters are still covered in snow and impossible to get to.
Councilman Williams says the next step is to set up a hearing with the City Council's transportation committee to try and push the bill forward.
The DOT told News 12 Brooklyn that "keeping meters in effect ensures that these spaces are clear, so that the Department of Sanitation can plow snow from the curbside in commercial districts."
