Williamsburg slashing latest in surge of attacks
A Williamsburg subway slashing Tuesday is the latest in a string of similar attacks throughout the city, police say.
The 18-year-old victim says he got off a train on his way home from school just before a group surrounded and attacked him. He says the group repeatedly punched him before one of the assailants slashed him near the eye with a blade between 2 and 3 inches long.
On Monday, a 30-year-old man was slashed across the face while waiting for the No. 3 train on Pennsylvania Avenue.
In a response to the surge in slashing attacks, the Guardian Angels group has sent about 150 volunteers to patrol subways around New York City seven days a week.
Anyone with information about the attacks is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
