Police question cold case suspect in the Caribbean

Police confirmed Tuesday that they are questioning a suspect in connection with the cold case slaying of a 16-year-old girl a decade ago.

Chanel Petro-Nixon's body was discovered in a garbage bag on Kingston Avenue after she went missing on Father's Day in 2006.

Police say investigators have traveled to the Caribbean island of St. Vincent to question a suspect. Pix 11 News has identified that suspect as Petro-Nixon's former classmate Veron Primus.

The Rev. Taharka Robinson has organized a rally on June 18 to remember the victim. He runs the Brooklyn Anti-violence Coalition.

"It's been going on 10 years, and they really need to have closure," Robinson says. "And just to think that this individual was right here in front of their face. They knew this young man."
