Visionaries aim to create walkways to connect BK communities
Officials and community leaders are hoping to get funding for an ambitious project in the works that would connect different Brooklyn communities.
Community groups and local elected officials are working to create the so-called Brooklyn Strand, a 40-acre project that would create a walkway from the base of the Brooklyn Bridge to Borough Hall.
A separate walkway from the base of the Manhattan Bridge to Commodore Barry Park in downtown Brooklyn would also be built.
Advocates from public and private sectors say they have been working on the project for two years.
Officials are now working to secure more funding from other city agencies. The borough president's office has already set aside more than $1 million for the project.
