Police: Gunshot victim dies after crashing car in Canarsie

Police are investigating the death of a man who was shot in the chest before crashing his car in Canarsie.

Witnesses reported the crash at East 82nd Street and Farragut Road around 10 p.m. Thursday. One witness said he realized that the victim had been shot when firefighters removed the victim from the overturned BMW that he had been driving.

That witness also took video of the scene, which included the badly mangled car, other cars that the victim's vehicle had struck and tires and debris in the road.

The victim, who was in his early 20s, was pronounced dead at a hospital, but the medical examiner will determine the exact cause of death.
