City offers relief for child support debt

The city's Human Resources Administration is helping parents who owe child support get out of debt.
The Pay It Off program requires people who owe child support to the HRA to put up a $1,000 down payment, which the city will then match dollar for dollar for non-custodial parents.
So if a parent owed $5,000, they would only need to pay back $2,500.
According to officials, the average individual debt owed to the agency is around $11,000.
The HRA's deputy commissioner says that the program will also help parents avoid driver's license suspensions and other law enforcement actions.
The program runs for a limited time from June 1-15. Interested parents can call 311 or visit the HRA's Manhattan office on West Broadway.
