Gun found in 8-year-old's backpack at P.S. 91

Police say a Prospect-Lefferts Gardens elementary school student came to school with a gun in his backpack Friday morning.
Officials say a class was outside of the school on Albany Avenue during recess when a teacher picked up an 8-year-old's backpack and discovered how heavy it was. They say that teacher then opened the backpack and found a gun inside of a plastic bag.
According to police, the teacher then brought the gun immediately to school security who alerted officials.
Police say the gun was a 380 Taurus Revolver with four rounds inside of it.
Investigators searched the school for reasons why and how a young boy was able to bring the gun to school.
No one was hurt, but parents say the situation could have gone horribly wrong.
"They need to let these parents know what's going on. That's not good and I feel insulted. That hurt my feelings. I pick up like nine kids from this school," says Wanda Gregory, a P.S. 91 caretaker.
Police tell News 12 that they are speaking to the boy and his father.
A Department of Education spokesperson says they are fully cooperating and working with police in the investigation and that they take all of their students' safety very seriously.
No arrests have been made.
