Kings County Memorial Day Parade honors veterans
Herds of people turned out for the 149th Kings County Memorial Day parade in Bay Ridge Monday.
Family members of veterans and active service members said it was special to see everyone honor those who put their lives on the line to serve their country.
"Look what they've done for our country," said Elizabeth Moran, of Bay Ridge. "They've dedicated their lives and without them what would we do?"
"Just to see all the Memorial Day parade for the kids," said Marianne Ponton, daughter of a veteran. "All the red, white and blue and the respect for all the people who have sacrificed for the country."
One woman shared a photo of her husband with News 12. Her husband, Jeremiah, was only 18 years old when he was drafted to fight in World War II.
"It's an honor to live Jerry's memory," said Judith Conway. "His memory is so strong in my life but it makes me feel very sad that he is not with me. We were here every year for many years."
