Students get day off for Brooklyn-Queens Day
Students around the city had the day off from classes in honor of Brooklyn-Queens Day.
The holiday was known as Anniversary Day 150 years ago. It was meant to honor the founding of protestant Sunday schools.
Originally, only students in Brooklyn and Queens were given the day off from classes. In 2005, the city extended the day off to all public schools across the five boroughs.
Teachers, however, still have to go to work.
