FEMA funds to help P.S. 329 recover from Sandy
Officials announced Friday that a Coney Island elementary school damaged in Superstorm Sandy will finally get new boilers before the next school year.
They say 17 feet of water flooded the boiler room at P.S. 329 when the storm struck in 2012. The school had been operating with mobile boiler units since then, which officials say led to problems regulating the temperature and impacted student learning.
City Councilman Mark Treyger sought FEMA funds to aid the school, which is now slated to receive $22 million for repairs.
P.S. 329 is among eight schools in Brooklyn receiving FEMA funding.
