A brand-new technology hub at the Brooklyn Navy Yard is opening its doors.
Large steel columns run across the ceilings of the 84,000-square-foot industrial site of the New Lab. It's filled with entrepreneurs from around the borough looking to bring their ideas to life.
At a time when manufacturing around the country is struggling, the New Lab wants to defy the odds.
"We're a mission-driven not-for-profit focused on creating high-quality jobs in the industrial and manufacturing industries," says New Lab founder David Ehrenberg.
All products lining the New Lab space are designed by the entrepreneurs working there. The ultimate goal is to transform Brooklyn into a Silicon Valley of sorts.
Currently, there about 100 entrepreneurs working the space, with room for up to 250 more.
