New law grants free breast cancer screening in NY
Gov. Andrew signed a new law Monday that guarantees free breast cancer screenings and prevention education to every New Yorker.
Breast cancer patients like Rosa Estrada are embracing the bill.
Estrada says that because she was screened and her cancer was detected early, she was successfully treated at Brookdale Hospital's new breast center.
She underwent surgery on April 12.
"I am a cancer survivor," she says.
Brookdale and the Healthcare Education Project have partnered to raise awareness of the new law in east Brooklyn.
The Health Education Project says Brookdale was chosen because of the community it serves.
As part of the law, Brookdale says it will receive funding toward more free services and mammograms.
