Clinton Hill tailors specialize in custom suits

Many people know that getting a custom-made suit can boost one's confidence, but for transgender or gender nonconforming people, it can be life changing.
A new documentary on HBO, called "Suited," features skilled tailors from Clinton Hill who specialize in such products.
Kate Peiler says she wants a new suit custom-made for her body type and style, and after watching the documentary, which featured the Bindle and Keep shop, she says she knew where to go to get it.
Bindle and Keep makes suits for all genders and body types, but partner Rae Tutera says it specializes in a strong sense of style and compassion for the transgender community.
"Had a really hard time convincing my tailor to make me what I was referring to as a men's suit," Tutera says. "So I had identified this as a real need, you know, making this experience more affordable and more accessible culturally."
The shop opened in 2011 and has grown steadily since.
A bespoke suit from Bindle and Keep runs from about $800 to $1,200, but the tailors say the experience is priceless.
