East New York shelter families treated to free barbecue

Independence Day marks a day of celebration across the nation and an East New York shelter made sure the families that reside there got to celebrate the holiday.

A Fourth of July celebration organized by the charity Project You was held at the Win Network Shelter. Project You provides vocational training to many people who live in the shelter.

The festivities included a barbecue and various kid-friendly activities. The mothers in the shelter were treated to free makeovers as well.

Aside from the organizers of the event, 50 community members came out to volunteer for the celebration.
