A whopping $540 million is up for grabs tonight in the latest Mega Millions jackpot drawing.
News 12 is told tickets have been selling at about twice the rate of just a week ago, which is most likely why the jackpot has spiked.
An estimated $1 billion in tickets have been sold since the last winning ticket was drawn in early March.
In order to win the jackpot, players must match all five regular numbers, or white balls, in any order, plus match the gold Mega Ball.
The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot is about one in 259 million.
The jackpot winner can choose between being paid in increments or taking the lump sum of about $236 million.
The drawing for the Mega Millions is at 11 p.m.
