Bastille Day celebrated in Carroll Gardens

Bastille Day celebrations got underway in Carroll Gardens Sunday ahead of France's July 14 holiday.

It marked the 10th year that the restaurant Provence en Boite has held a Bastille Day bash.

There was food, wine and music at the event, plus a pétanque tournament. The bocce ball-like game numbers among France's favorite pastimes.

Owner Leslie Bernat says she loves being an American, but it's important to also honor her roots.

Attendees say it has been a tough year for France following the deadly terror attacks in Paris, but such fêtes send the message that the French community will continue to live their lives and celebrate what it means to be French.
